Working for healthy and sustainable lifestyles

Occupational health service

Benders is affiliated to Sweden’s occupational health service via agreements with Avonova and Qualitas Vis AB in Falköping. Every third year, employees are offered a health check. At this check, there is a questionnaire covering how the workplace affects the employee, both physically and mentally. The results of the health checks and questionnaires are compiled by HR and monitored jointly with the individual managers. If necessary, action plans are drawn up in consultations between HR and the managers concerned.

Alcohol and drugs

Abuse of alcohol and drugs is a serious problem in society. Being under the influence at workplaces such as those found within Benders is devastating for the work environment and safety. The company is thus very clear about alcohol and drugs not being compatible with work. In this respect, there is zero tolerance.

The company works actively to identify employees with substance abuse problems and has action programmes that seek to help them sort out such abuse. Benders has an active collaboration with Aleforsstiftelsen, a foundation that helps with counselling as well as with assessment and establishing of dependency diagnoses. Action plans, external counselling and rehabilitation can be called on in cases where substance abuse is discovered.

In 2018, Benders conducted random drug testing. This was extended to all our operations in 2019.

Monitoring of illness statistics

Statistics of absence through illness are compiled monthly. To seize on any problems that may be connected to the work environment, HR collates and analyses these statistics every six months. Statistics and analyses are presented to senior management and the central health and safety committee.

High absence through illness is monitored and rehabilitation lists are compiled monthly by HR. This picks up employees who have long, continuous sick leave or many short periods of absence. HR informs the relevant managers and carries out routine rehabilitation investigations. The aim is to detect whether sick leave is connected to workplace problems and whether the employer needs to institute rehabilitation.

In 2019, total absence through illness for office and shopfloor personnel combined was 5.58%. The separate figures for these two categories of workers was, respectively, 1.63% and 6.84%.

Keep-fit subsidy

Being physically active increases the ability not only to work well, but also to be more active in leisure time. We believe that rich and rewarding leisure time contributes to good workplace performance and long-term employment relationships. Via financial subsidies for costs arising in connection with physical exercise in leisure time, the company encourages such activity. In 2020, a new benefits portal was introduced for all employees. Besides offering discounts and pension schemes, it also simplifies taking advantage of the keep-fit subsidy. In 2020, 26% of all employees chose to use the keep-fit subsidy. In 2019, the figure was 21%. This shows that the benefits portal has had quite some impact.
