The uddevalla cauldron is bubbling

With yet more commercial tenants on the way, a restaurant with famous TV chefs already operating and resources such as own harbour and rail line, Benders’ Uddevalla industrial estate is a cauldron of possibilities.

The estate, where Volvo C70s used to be produced, is taking on its new shape. “We are moving in all the tenants we have contracts with and are in discussions with several other prospective tenants. Interest has been high throughout,” relates Ove Bender.

PostNord, the first tenant, uses 4,000 m² for letter and parcel handling. “With the E6 highway so near, the location was optimal. In fact, we’re cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 90 tonnes a year. Thus, the environmental benefits are enormous. We have also concentrated four workplaces into one. Having letters and parcels in one place is very cost-efficient,” states Peter Mossberg, production manager, PostNord in Uddevalla.

“We are moving in all the tenants we have contracts with and are in discussions with several other prospective tenants. Interest has been high throughout” - Ove Bender, MD.

Starry lunches!

Very few industrial estates can boast that they have a TV chef – Benders in Uddevalla can! Restaurang Kärranäs, a lunchtime restaurant that opened on the first of October 2014, is run by Benders in collaboration with Fredric Andersson, an Uddevalla boy who has won stardom as the chef in two national TV programmes (Fredric Spis on TV4 and Hemma och Go’kväll on SVT). The restaurant seats 400 and can serve meals for 2,000 guests.

“I was looking for premises in Uddevalla and, of course, knew that Benders had bought the Volvo factory. So, I rang Ove. He immediately confessed that cooking was not his greatest interest, but that he was still interested in a collaboration. Meeting Ove and Karl-Erik Bender left me feeling very positive,” says Fredric.
