After conducting extensive testing, Benders is now introducing prefabricated concrete elements for speed bumps and busy street sections with a wear surface made of embedded Bohus granite – a solution that both shortens construction time and increases durability significantly.
On-site construction of paving stone speed bumps is very time-consuming with long traffic disruptions – this is now something that can be solved significantly faster and with better results.
Dense and durable – all in one piece
"We simply cast paving stones and kerb stones in flamed granite from our own quarries in Bohuslän into a reinforced concrete element. This results in a very dense and stable structure, which is practically maintenance-free and eliminates the risk of subsidence and rutting that can otherwise occur after paving stones have been installed," Fredrik Helgesson, product manager for Benders' infrastructure range says.
Quick installation minimizes traffic disruption
The new Consett elements are usually custom made for each project and can easily be lifted into place in one piece using the cast-in lifting socket. The product has been tested and refined in various contexts for several years, and production is now finally up and running at Benders' factory in Uddevalla.
"Since the weight load is spread over the entire element, the element life span is significantly improved, while the laying work is dramatically simplified. We have engaged experienced pavers in the development work, and everyone agrees that manual paving is no longer a viable option everywhere. Increasing traffic in our cities requires more efficient methods – every hour without traffic shutdowns is worth its weight in gold,” Fredrik continues.
Better function at a lower total cost
For those who are prepared to make certain adjustments on site, there are several standard dimensions in stock, but otherwise all manufacturing is custom made to suit each client. In addition to speed bumps, the Consett elements can also be used as a wear surface in particularly busy traffic areas, where the smooth granite surface also contributes to reduced noise compared to streets with rough-wedged paving stones.
"The shorter construction time combined with the high wear resistance make the Consett elements a profitable business. Consett is a natural development of our different speed bumps, which are still good alternatives," concludes Fredrik, pointing out that if someone would like to replace granite with other types of natural stone or concrete slabs, there are no obstacles to do so.
