After several successful joint projects, Benders Byggsystem is acquiring Prekon i Syd AB, technical consultants and designers specialising in concrete prefabrications.
“We have long lacked in-house expertise on the design side and, both abroad and in Sweden, have been buying in services on a large scale. So, when this acquisition opportunity came up, there were no doubts. This is an experienced team with a very good reputation in the industry,” reveals Anders Erdmark, MD of Benders Byggsystem.
Better control and more efficient production
The acquisition is completely in line with Benders’ long-standing strategy of “do as much ourselves as possible”. Anders sees great advantages in bringing design expertise into the organisation.
“We will still need to buy in services, but we’ll now be able to handle many projects entirely ourselves. We will also have better control of our external consultants as regards bringing technical solutions in that meet our standards. Using our own designers as early as the bid stage will also contribute to more cost-efficient solutions that, I hope, will benefit our customers.”
“It started with Benders wanting to discuss closer collaboration. It ended in a deal that feels very right for us. We’ve known so many people well at Benders for some time. Thus, the chemistry is there. After fourteen years of self-employment, it will be exciting to form part of a bigger whole that has an expressed desire to develop,” comments Ruben Gianolio, technical manager at Prekon.
For the time being, Prekon is staying at its current premises in Lund. However, plans include an increase in manpower and a move to Benders’ production facility in Södra Sandby, just outside Lund.
